ASPI & CREA webinar: Implications of China’s 15th five-year plan for the climate and energy transition

At this year’s Two Sessions, China released its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), setting new climate and energy targets that will shape whether it can meet its headline emissions goals. As power sector emissions level off amid rapid clean energy growth, yet a large coal pipeline and slow industrial decarbonisation remain, this plan marks a critical test for China’s climate trajectory.

In this webinar, experts from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) and the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) examine the plan’s targets, assess the political and economic signals behind them, and discuss what to expect in the years ahead.

Participants include Lauri Myllyvirta, co-founder and Lead Analyst at Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), and non-resident senior fellow at China Climate Hub of Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI); Qi Qin, China Analyst at CREA; and Kate Logan, director of China Climate Hub and Climate Diplomacy at ASPI. CREA China Policy Analyst and Team Lead, Belinda Schaepe, moderates the discussion.
