In this webinar, experts from the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) and the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) analyse and provide insights on the contradicting trends in China’s new climate targets, which provide momentum for global climate negotiations, yet still fall short of what would be required to achieve the Paris Agreement’s goals, and what to look out for ahead of COP30 and beyond.
Even as China’s emissions are starting to level off, the country is still well off-track for a number of key climate and energy targets for 2025. And while coal power plant construction continues to grow, China’s clean energy exports cut emissions overseas by 1% in 2024.
